Rejuvenate the Skin You’re In With a Chemical Peel

A beautiful and younger-looking complexion is hidden under the top layer of your skin. Chemical peels work to reveal this beautiful, dewy skin by removing your dull and damaged top layer.

In 2017, 1.4 million chemical peels were performed in the United States. A chemical peel restores your complexion and reveals fresh, glowing skin. It’s a safe, low-risk procedure that rejuvenates your skin and can even help your makeup and beauty products work better.

The premier aesthetics team at Dontage has helped patients living in Falls Church, Virginia, address a variety of skin concerns with chemical peels.

What a chemical peel can do

If you’re like most people, you have some skin areas you’d like to improve. As you age, your skin often exposes years of sun damage through wrinkles and sunspots. Chemical peels can effectively improve:

  • Skin look and feel
  • Fine lines
  • Sunspots
  • Acne scars
  • Melasma
  • Under-eye circles

By removing the dead skin cells from the surface of your skin, a chemical peel can help lessen the signs of aging while rejuvenating your skin.

How a chemical peel works

The top layer of your skin is exposed to toxins, beauty products, and harmful sun rays on an everyday basis. After years of this wear and tear, it often becomes dull and dry. During your chemical peel, a member of our team talks with you about your skin care concerns and decides which type of chemical peel — from mild to deep — is best for you.

To start the treatment, we cleanse your face to remove any makeup, dirt or oil, and to prep your skin for the chemical peel. We then apply the acid-based solution to your face and allow it to work its magic.

Once the solution begins to dry, it’s normal to feel a tingling sensation. We check in with you through the process and ask you questions regarding how it feels to make sure you’re comfortable. After the solution sits for 3-5 minutes, we remove it from your face and apply a moisturizer and SPF. You can expect the whole process to take about an hour.

Chemical peel after-care

Following a chemical peel, your skin may be tingly, tight, and red for up to a week. As the name suggests, you may experience a good amount of peeling for 3-5 days afterward. This is a natural part of the healing process and means that the procedure has done its job.

Your skin is adapting to a lot of changes post-treatment and is much more sensitive after you get a chemical peel, so here are some tips to ensure you get the best results:

  • Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours following a peel; the increased blood flow can cause discomfort
  • Protect your skin by avoiding sun exposure and by wearing a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater
  • Wash your face with cool water — warm or hot may feel uncomfortable — and always follow with a medium-to-thick moisturizer as a protective barrier

If you’re looking to rejuvenate your skin and improve its overall appearance, chemical peels are a safe and effective way to get beautiful, dewy skin. And they cost a fraction of the price of laser resurfacing treatments. We offer a variety of different peels for every skin type, and we can help you find the one that’s right for you.
