Chemical Peels

Fight Sunspots and Melasma with a Chemical Peel

If you see spots and other pigmented patches every time you look in the mirror, you know how damaging they can be to your self-confidence.

One type of hyperpigmentation called melasma is a skin condition marked by patches of darker skin, that may be caused by sun exposure and hormones. You probably know sunspots as freckle-like spots that are also linked to the sun. Regardless of how good your skincare routine is or the quality of your skin products, these dark areas won’t go away on their own.

At Dontage Premier Aesthetic Anti-Aging Specialists in Falls Church, Virginia, we understand the frustration skin discoloration brings. Skincare specialist Waseem Garbia, PA-C, and his compassionate team provide warm, personalized care that’s customized to meet your unique skin care needs.

We offer chemical peels that can help you fight sunspots and melasma.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels are skin treatments performed by a licensed medical clinician or aesthetician. By using chemical solutions to remove layers of skin cells, chemical peels resurface your skin.

The controlled wounds activate your body’s natural healing process by increasing collagen production wherever the peel was applied. Collagen, a structural protein made by your body, is what helps keep your skin strong and supple.

Types of chemical peels

At Dontage, we offer chemical peels of different strengths depending on your skin type and specific concerns. Waseem and our team evaluate your skin to ensure the right type of peel is applied for your skin’s condition and skin-tone goals.

We’re proud to offer three levels of treatment. Each brings with it different effects and healing times. Here is a quick overview of each type:

Superficial peels

Superficial peels use a mild acid and work best on light discoloration. If you get a superficial peel, expect mild redness, which usually goes away after about a day.

Medium peels

Medium peels use a stronger formula to penetrate the outer and middle layers of skin. This reduces the appearance of imperfections such as sunspots and melasma. With a medium peel, you’ll need up to five days of downtime.

Deep peels

Deep chemical peels use the strongest formula to reach deep under the skin into the middle layers. Going deep means more damaged skin cells are removed for more dramatic results. Deep peels require the most aftercare and up to two weeks of downtime.

Chemical peels treat more than dark spots and patches

Chemical peels not only erase dark spots, but they also reduce other signs of aging. Peels work to remove old skin and promote the growth of younger, firmer skin. They can help improve the appearance of other age-related conditions, such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Crepey skin
  • Freckles and age spots
  • Mild scars
  • Dry, flaky skin

Because chemical peels work on the skin from the outside, they’re best used on superficial issues, like sunspots, melasma, and those listed above. If you want to say goodbye to deeper wrinkles or heavily scarred skin, we may recommend additional treatments. Check out our services page for more information.

What’s involved with a chemical peel?

Waseem analyzes your skin to determine which level of peel is right for you. During treatment, your clinician cleanses your skin then applies a high-quality, clinically-tested chemical peel. Once treatment is complete, the peel is removed and we apply products to help your skin heal.

Peels take about 30-60 minutes, and you’ll go home the same day. If you’ve had a deep peel, you may need to wear bandages afterward.

Take the first step toward making sunspots and melasma disappear. Contact our office by phone to schedule a consultation or book online today.
