Called “the new Botox,” Daxxify has the aesthetics industry all abuzz! What is it that everyone’s talking about?
Is Daxxify better than Botox? Here’s what you need to know about this remarkable cosmetic injection.
Daxxify / Daxi is the latest in a line of botulinum toxin injections. It’s a neuromodulator that works like Botox to paralyze injected muscles for the treatment and prevention of dynamic wrinkles. Both Daxi and Botox block nerve signals that tell muscles to contract, preventing this movement in the treated area.
But, there are some key differences, and some say it’s better than the original cosmetic injection that put the neurotoxic protein produced by Clostridium botulinum to good use. Others say it doesn’t get better than Botox. What’s the real story?
Understanding important information about each, including results, formulation, and cost, will empower you to make an informed decision on your journey towards achieving a more youthful appearance.
Daxxify is the brand name for DaxibotulinumToxinA. It’s only FDA approved for the treatment of glabellar lines, or those vertical “11” lines between your brows. However, it can be used to address other dynamic lines such as crow’s feet.
While it contains the same toxin that causes botulism, it cannot actually cause botulism because it’s used in tiny doses and the bacterium Clostridium botulinum itself is not actually injected.
When it comes to results, everyone is raving about the longevity of Daxxify, which lasts six to nine months before maintenance injections are necessary. This gives it an advantage over Botox if you want your effects to last as long as possible. However, if you don’t like the results, this could be a disadvantage.
As for the onset of results, you may be able to see an improvement as early as the day after injections, though it typically takes a couple of days to notice enhancement. It takes up to two weeks for the full results to become evident.
The cost of Daxi is more than Botox, typically priced between $15 and $25 per unit. However, it may be less in the long run because it lasts longer and patients require fewer maintenance sessions.
The total cost of both may be about the same depending on your dosage, how often you get injections, and your injector’s price. If you’re just planning to have one session for whatever reason, you can expect to spend more for this injectable.
Botox is the brand name for OnabotulinumtoxinA, and it’s short for botulism (bo) toxin (tox). It is FDA approved for the treatment of crow’s feet, glabellar lines, and horizontal forehead lines. It’s also used safely and effectively for other dynamic wrinkles, as well as to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile in a procedure known as a lip flip.
Since Botox effects typically last three to four months, they aren’t as long lasting as Daxxify. This makes it a better choice for many who are getting treatment for the first time, as it gives patients the opportunity to “try on” facial rejuvenation injections.
Most patients see improvement from Botox within two to three days. Like Daxi, it takes time for the active ingredient to work. You can expect it to take up to 14 days to see the intended effects.
Regardless of the injectable you choose, you should plan ahead and schedule your injections two weeks before a big event if there is a special occasion you’re planning treatment for. This helps ensure any side effects, such as swelling and bruising, have subsided, and that the neurotoxin has had time to provide the revitalization you desire.
Most injectors price Botox between $10 and $20 per unit. The number of units you need for either injectable is dependent upon a number of factors such as the severity of the lines you wish to address and the location of the wrinkles you’re treating. You may need anywhere from 10 to 50 units or more per area.
One more factor to consider is the length of time on the market. Botox has been FDA approved since 2002, so it’s been in use for over two decades, proving reliability and safety. However, Daxi was approved in 2022. How much of a concern that raises for you is a personal decision, as Daxxify has undergone rigorous testing to prove its safety.
Lastly, Botox is more widely available than Daxi, since the latter is a relatively new treatment. It may be hard to find it in your area, so Botox may be better simply because it’s your only option.
So, is Daxxify better than Botox? Though both are amazing neuromodulators that work in a similar manner, the two are not interchangeable. But, that doesn’t make one necessarily better than the other either.
The answer is that it really depends on your individual treatment goals, your current skin condition, and other factors you should consider before choosing the best option for you.
